Today, on International Women’s Day, we would like to celebrate the achievements of women everywhere, especially here at BlueOcean. With ~50% of our staff being women, we know firsthand that a diverse workforce is critical to a successful organization.

“Diversity is a necessary requirement for innovation! Especially in the world of technology and AI, diversity in all forms must be embraced and valued,” says Liza Nebel, President and co-founder of BlueOcean. “We are building a solution for ALL marketers to feel more confident about the decisions they make – to meet the needs of a diverse customer base, we have to incorporate diversity in how we build and go to market.”

Azi Colling, our lead data analyst, says, “BlueOcean is a great company in terms of recognizing the contribution of women in the AI industry. Having a woman as a co-founder leads the way for other aspirational, creative, and hardworking female employees who strive to be at their best in a highly competitive market.”

AI innovation has certainly introduced tremendous value in today’s market – processing massive amounts of data, identifying patterns and predictions, and even generating new content. But to reach its full impact, and avoid some devastating pitfalls, it must reflect the diversity of its users. Oana Tudusciuc, our lead data scientist, reflects “All innovations vastly reflect the biases of their creators, so in order to develop inclusive AI systems that reflect the world we live in we need to ensure that the teams building these systems are bringing different life experiences, education backgrounds, and diverse specialists together, to counteract each other’s biases and complement each other’s ideas.”

We will continue to celebrate diversity and cultivate a culture where everyone is valued, respected, and empowered to do their best work.  As our core values state, “We embrace difference because diversity is our strength.”  It was true when we founded the company in 2019, and it is even more true today. Sara Seabourne, Head of People and Culture at BlueOcean, explains “’The way we approach DEI at BlueOcean is evolutionary.  We know that we must never rest and must consistently implement DEI initiatives and processes. It’s critical that we continue to analyze and measure DEI efforts and infuse them into all that we do whether it’s product development or the employee lifecycle.”
